Check out this amazing CGI VXF breakdown by the talented Ash Thorp! Ash was the Lead Motion Graphics designer, under the wing of : Production Designers Ben Procter and Sean Haworth, visual effects director Matthew Butler, and director Gavin Hood. Twitter -https://twitter.com/Ashthorp Website - http://www.ashthorp.com/ Starting in late 2011, I received the opportunity to join the creative team for Ender's Game and continued off and on the project for about a year and a half in total. My main objective was to visualize the interface technology and then creatively design them into each unique scene of the film; this process involved everything from the more simple design of door latch actuators to the more massively complex setting of battle simulations. It was a very rewarding and challenging project and the biggest in my career at that time, since I was able to be involved in so many stages from pre-production meetings to the final modifications and edits of the film. From my early talks with Ben, Sean, Matthew, and Gavin, and then seeing my rough sketches manifest themselves onto the film screen was all an amazing experience. The images below vary greatly in time and design scale: some are unused concepts that didn't make the final edit, some are style frames created to pitch ideas of the story, and others are actual moments or frames that got incorporated into the released film. All in all, I generated about 650+ Photoshop files and many pages of scribbles and notes, so this is only a glimpse into my journey on this incredible project. Besides the wonderful experience and lessons learned from my involvement on this film, I met some amazing collaborators whom I am now so fortunate to call my friends. I would like to personally thank Ben Procter, Sean Haworth, Matthew Butler, G Creative, and Gavin Hood who took a risk on a young, passionate, newly established artist. Ender's Game was the first feature film to help launch the beginning of my freelance design career, and I'm thankful for this blessing that helped open the door to many more feature film projects and creative opportunities since it started back in 2011. In Brazil alone, an estimated 70 percent of employers state that the skills gap present in the labor market limits their competitiveness. Simultaneously, more than half of young people are unemployed, overqualified in their jobs, or not enrolled in school. The lack of skilled technical graduates combined with a vast employment gap suggests the need for increased access to technical training programs, as well as the development of private co-funding of higher education. In this session, participants will explore how incentivizing secondary schools and universities to create programs such as apprenticeships can expedite the transition to an innovative, knowledge-based economy in Latin America. Moderator: Douglas L. Becker, Chairman and CEO, Laureate Education Inc. Participants: Azucena de Benedetti, Chief Executive Officer, Gente Estratégica Centro de Formación para el Trabajo Eon Nigel Harris, Vice Chancellor, University of the West Indies Donna Hrinak, President, Boeing Brazil, Vice President Boeing International

Since 2005—through great imagination, partnerships, and hard work—CGI members have tried, sometimes failed, and most often succeeded in turning their ideas into action to tackle global challenges. To accomplish this, they have designed better and more ambitious Commitments to Action, and mobilized their resources and partnerships to form creative networks of collaboration across the world. For CGI’s 10th Annual Meeting, the 2014 annual theme of Reimagining Impact will: • highlight and celebrate the transformative ideas and actions of CGI members over the last decade • explore how members measure and assess the outcomes of their commitments • imagine bold ideas for CGI members to achieve even greater impact going forward Opening Conversation: PARTICIPANTS: Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former U.S. Secretary of State and U.S. Senator from New York Jim Yong Kim, President, World Bank Group Ginni Rometty, Chairman, President, and CEO, IBM Panel Discussion: PARTICIPANTS: President Bill Clinton, Founding Chairman, Clinton Global Initiative; 42nd President of the United States Michelle Bachelet, President of the Republic of Chile His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Commitment Announcements: REMARKS: Chelsea Clinton, Vice Chair, Clinton Foundation

top 10 worst special effects in famous films Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: david.f@valnetinc.com Other Videos You Might Like Description: In modern Hollywood, the once-iconic “blockbuster” label has grown to be something of a bad word. Sure, it might still catch the intrigued ear of a movie buff drawn in by the allure of a big budget spectacle. But more often it has come to signal brainless popcorn fare featuring poorly developed characters, clichéd and familiar tropes and a de-emphasis on plot in favor of explosions, special effects and other visually stimulating fluff. In other words, think Michael Bay. But despite a cinephile culture that looks down upon these larger than life romps, there is no denying a broad appeal and lucrative value that have seen titles like “Captain America: Civil War” and even the widely reviled “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” rank among the highest-grossing films to be released so far this year. That level of success can be chalked up to a number of factors, nearly all of which are tied to the use of that big budget. By throwing buckets of money into the production of a movie, you can reel in A-list actors, piggyback on major film franchises and invest all sorts of resources into the promotion and hype of the blockbuster. However, the most eye-catching elements of many supersized contemporary movies are often produced not on an exotic, expansive movie set, but in a small digital arts studio office. Computer-generated imagery, more popularly known by its CGI acronym, has enabled films to capture just about every piece of science fiction and fantasy available to the human imagination. It has taken film-goers through the time from the Jurassic Park-driven age of dinosaurs all the way up to numerous takes on the look of our distant, as-of-yet-unseen future. Even stories once believed to be unfilmable, such as Where the Wild Things Are, Cloud Atlas and Life of Pi, have arrived on the big screen thanks to CGI. In the hands of the proper graphic artists and technologically savvy talents, CGI can transport the viewer seamlessly into a believable yet spell-binding world unlike our own. But placed into wrong and inadequate hands, the viewer can be taken right out of a moment they would otherwise be invested in, glimpsing behind the curtain of the film production and being forced instead to become aware of the shoddy work that has taken place behind the camera. While one might think that money, pressure and a thorough editing process might be enough to prevent any instances of poor CGI making it to the big screen, the history of blockbuster movies would suggest otherwise. It seems like an entitled and unappreciative complaint to bemoan the poor computer graphics inherent in a handful of movies. After all, CGI has given us such iconic Hollywood figures as E.T. and the shark from Jaws, not to mention allowing DreamWorks to bring life to some of the greatest kid’s films ever made. But those successes only serve to further increase the lofty expectations placed upon CGI-heavy blockbusters. If we know what incredible visuals can be achieved through well done computer graphic imaging and we also understand the eye-popping riches invested by studios in so many big budget projects, then why wouldn’t we expect only the best that the technology has to offer? That’s why these 10 examples of CGI done wrong in film stand out as examples of doing so little with so much opportunity.
